For Mineral Capsheet / Modified Bitumen:

  1. Clean surfaces prior to coating. Power washing is the best method.
  2. Apply 1 coat Lava Primer @ 300 sq.ft./gal by roller or pump sprayer.
  3. Apply 1st coat White Lava @ 50 sq.ft./gallon
  4. Apply 2nd coat White Lava @ 75 sq.ft./gallon
  5. Full fabric reinforcement is recommended on older roofs, while newer roofs only primer and coating is necessary.

For Metal Roofs:

  1. Clean surfaces prior to coating.
  2. Spot prime any bare metal or rusted metal with Heavy Duty Metal Primer
  3. Install self-adhesive tape over all seams and flashing pieces
  4. Install either self adhesive anchor caps or polyurethane sealant over all anchors
  5. Apply 2 coats White Lava @ 75 sq.ft./gallon per each coat.

For Plywood Roofs:

  1. Caulk all seams with polyurethane sealant.
  2. Apply Lava Primer @ 300 sq.ft./gallon by roller or pump sprayer
  3. Install 6” roof fabric over all joints, imbedded between two heavy coats of White Lava
  4. Apply 1st coat White Lava @ 50 sq.ft./gallon, imbedding 40” fabric into wet coating, overlapping 2” at edge.
  5. Apply 2nd coat White Lava @ 75 sq.ft./gallon to cover fabric
  6. Apply 3rd coat White Lava @ 100 sq.ft./gallon as finish

For Tar & Gravel Roofs:

  1. Remove all loose gravel, dirt, and dust from roof surface.
  2. Apply Acrychem Emulsion @ 5 gallons per 100 sq.ft., while wet, imbed 40” fabric into wet coating to fully adhere. Backroll or brush surface with dry roller to press into the emulsion. Do not overcoat fabric on topside with emulsion.
  3. After emulsion/fabric is dry, rinse off surface with hose to remove surfactant.
  4. Apply 1st coat White Lava @ 75 sq.ft./gallon
  5. Apply 2nd coat White Lava @ 75 sq.ft./gallon

We typically recommend that you install fabric and coating around all roof penetrations (pipes, vents, skylights, etc.). We also recommend the same over the perimeter flashing to prevent wind uplift. Both of these steps should be done prior to the above installation steps for each type of roof.

White Lava is used to waterproof and protect existing and new roof substrates, including built-up, metal, modified bitumen capsheets, asphalt shingles, and wood roof decks. When installed per manufacturer's instructions, it is a permanently renewable, totally waterproof, and highly heat reflective roof system. In the standard “White” color, the heat reflectivity is about 85%. This can be extended up to 93% reflectivity by adding an additional coat of our Iradium IR finish. Other colors are available if “White” is not desired, the lighter colors being the better reflectors.

White Lava Roof Coating can be applied by brush, roller, and airless spray equipment. Full material and material/labor warranties are available through licensed applicators that have been trained in the proper application of the system.

Colors:

White Lava has the best reflectivity in the stock white color. However, a wide-range of color selections can be tinted into the coating. We have the assortment below to choose from or we can match the color of your choice. Light to medium tones can be tinted into White Lava. If darker colors are needed, our Tropical Roofshield can be tinted from Deep to Accent tones.
