Tropical Silicone

Tropical Silicone is a solvent-free, high-solids, pure silicone roof coating for use over existing roof substrates as a water-proofing and heat reflective membrane. Tropical Silicone can be used on low-sloped roofs that tend to pond water, effectively resisting the mildew and algae that grow in those ponds.

Tropical Silicone is available in 5 gallon pails.

For Mineral Capsheet / Modified Bitumen:

  1. Clean surfaces prior to coating…power washing is best method.
  2. Detail roof penetrations and perimeter with White Lava Roof Coating and Polyester Mesh Fabric prior to application of the silicone coating.
  3. Apply 1st coat Tropical Silicone @ 1.25 gallons per 100 sq.ft.
  4. Apply 2nd coat Tropical Silicone @ 1.25 gallons per 100 sq.ft.

For Metal Roofs:

  1. Clean surfaces prior to coating.
  2. Spot prime any bare metal or rusted metal with Heavy Duty Metal Primer.
  3. Install self-adhesive tape over all seams and flashing pieces.
  4. Install either self adhesive anchor caps or polyurethane sealant over all anchors.
  5. Apply 2 coats Tropical Silicone @ 1.25 gallons per 100 sq.ft.

    For Tar & Gravel Roofs:

    1. Remove all loose gravel, dirt, and dust from roof surface.
    2. Apply Acrychem Emulsion @ 5 gallons per 100 sq.ft., while wet, imbed 40” fabric into wet coating to fully adhere. Backroll or brush surface with dry roller to press into the emulsion.
    3. Do not overcoat fabric on topside with emulsion.
    4. After emulsion/fabric is dry, rinse off surface with hose to remove surfactant.
    5. Apply 1st coat Tropical Silicone @ 1.25 gallons per 100 sq.ft.
    6. Apply 2nd coat Tropical Silicone @ 1.25 gallons per 100 sq.ft.

We typically recommend that you install fabric and coating around all roof penetrations (pipes, vents, skylights, etc.). We also recommend the same over the perimeter flashing to prevent wind uplift. Both of these steps should be done prior to the above installation steps for each type of roof.

Tropical Silicone is used to waterproof and protect existing and new roof substrates, including built-up, metal, modified bitumen capsheets, and tar and gravel roof decks. When installed per manufact urer’s instructions, it is a totally waterproof, and highly heat reflective roof system. In the standard “White” color, the heat reflectivity is about 85%. Other colors are available if “White” is not desired, the lighter colors being the better reflectors.

Tropical Silicone can be applied by brush, roller, and airless spray equipment. Full material and material/labor warranties are available through licensed applicators that have been trained in the proper application of the system.

    Colors:
